Use These Main Acupuncture Points for Anxiety on a Regular Basis for Relief and Timely Support

In our modern world, filled with gadgets and busy schedules, anxiety and stress issues have become extremely common.

Stress is an inevitable part of our daily, modern lives. We can all take steps to reduce our levels of stress and anxiety daily to improve our health and well-being.

Acupuncture is well-known for inducing a relaxation response, hence the meditative-like experience many of our clients experience during a session. The insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin at specific acupuncture points release endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killing chemicals. Acupuncture also affects the part of the brain that governs serotonin, a brain chemical involved with mood and stress response regulation.

At Modern Acupuncture, we strive to promote long-term wellness and reduce the negative effects of stress and anxiety for all of our patients.

Our highly skilled License Acupuncturists use specific points to reduce stress and relieve anxiety. These points include areas on the hands and face and have been used in Chinese Medicine for thousands of years.

For those of you looking for an immediate relaxing experience and to work with one of our practitioners with a unique treatment plan to help with anxiety, we recommend visiting your local Modern Acupuncture clinic. Many of the most effective Acupuncture points can also be stimulated at home with acupressure, in addition to your regular acupuncture treatments.

When pressure is applied to these specific acu-points, it can trigger a variety of effects on the body that can help with anxiety relief and promote relaxation and wellness. While not a substitute for regular acupuncture, acupressure is a great option for dealing with these issues while at home.

Find a comfortable seated position and focus on deep breathing throughout the session. Press your fingers firmly with massage-like pressure onto each acupressure point, in order, and move in small circular motions for 1-2 minutes. Apply this acupressure technique two times per day, while you are at home.

4 Acupressure Anxiety Relief Points:

Yin Tang

This commonly used point for stress, anxiety, and headaches is located on the forehead, midway between the eyebrows.

  1. Touch the point between your eyebrows with your index finger or thumb.
  2. Take slow, deep breaths and apply pressure in a circular motion.

Heart 7 - Spirit gate

This effective stress point is located at the crease on your outer wrist, below your pinkie finger. Stimulating this point is often used for relaxation, quieting a busy mind, and helping you fall asleep.

  1. Feel for the small space in this area and apply gentle pressure in a circular motion.
  2. Massage for one to two minutes.
  3. Repeat on the same area of your other wrist.

PC 6 -Inner Gate

The Inner Gate Point is widely used to help with anxiety and related breathing and digestive complaints. To find it, place the hand palm up and use three fingers to measure roughly an inch down the wrist. The inner gate point is here, approximately in the center of the wrist.

  1. Touch the point between the tendons, 2 inches above the wrist crease with your opposite hand.
  2. Take slow, deep breaths and apply pressure with the index and middle finger in a circular motion.
  3. Apply the same technique to the opposite side.

LV 3 - Great Surge

This point on the foot is often combined with other Acupuncture points to balance the nervous system response. A balanced nervous system will help promote calmness and adaptability to stress. The Great Surge point is located on the top of the foot, along the webbing between the first and second toes, in the depression before the joint.

  1. Touch the point on the webbing between the first and second toes, between the joint.
  2. Take slow, deep breaths and apply pressure with the index finger or thumb in a circular motion.
  3. Apply the same technique to the opposite side.

At Modern Acupuncture, your long-term health is naturally our priority. Working with our License Acupuncturists will set you on the path to relieving anxiety for the long term. Adding the power of Acupressure to your regular Acupuncture sessions will enhance the long-term benefits and your ability to handle stress in daily life.
